Fat Jimmy 'Vintage Series' speakers:  Absolutely THE BEST current production speaker replacement or upgrade for your vintage Fender or other vintage amplifier!

PLEASE READ THIS!!!
Fat Jimmy Vintage Series speakers are custom made speakers that are typically made to order by our friends at WGS.  These speakers are assembled by hand, made by true craftsmen and are of the highest quality. They are then shipped to you directly from the manufacturer!  This helps keep prices down by not having to ship twice.  As a result, tracking information is not immediately available, and will be updated/provided via email as soon as received.  Most Fat Jimmy Vintage Series speakers are shipped to domestic customers within 5-10 business days of the order being placed.  Business days DO NOT include weekends and holidays!  And again... due to current conditions delays should not be surprising if experienced, so please be patient.
We cannot cancel orders once sent to WGS and placed in their queue.
PLEASE DO NOT ask for a tracking number if less than 10 business days have passed since placing your order!!!

If you are located outside of the US please send an email with your full name, full shipping address, and full desired speaker order and we can get you an accurate shipping quote from WGS and send an invoice for a speaker order.  Shopify does not calculate international shipping properly for speakers so we do it manually, per order for international speaker orders.

All speaker models are currently in production!!

Due to the uncertainty of Covid-19 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and how supply chain has been adversely affected, please be aware that there can be unexpected delays in the shipment of your order for ANY speaker model.

I am excited to announce the release of our brand new 10" and 12" BRITISH SERIES 'GREEN FRAME' SPEAKERS!! These speakers capture the classic British sound to a T and have been meticulously crafted as top shelf US made options for these famous British tones.  The new C1225GB recreates the famous British sound of the late 60s and early 70's 25w 'Greenback' speaker.
There is something special that happens when you push a large magnet 25-30w speaker towards it’s limits… it holds together in a way that a small magnet 25w speaker does not, but also imparts it’s own flavor to the breakup qualities as it starts to overdrive.
These low power FJ GBs have a paper voice coil like the originals, and this is what gives it the 25w rating.
Which got us thinking… the modern ‘Creamback’ speakers are touted by their manufacturer as higher powered versions of the low powered Greenback classic.
So… start with a killer low powered vintage replica (C1225GB), change the voice coil material to kapton in order to increase power handling capability in this winning recipe, (hoping it sounds as good as it should in theory - not always the case when putting together a speaker), take it for a test drive... ladies and gents, we have a 65w version of the GB that, in our opinion, surpasses the modern, current production ‘Creamback’ version of this classic!  The C1065GB and C1265GB!
There is a sense of depth, dimension and a real '3D' sound these speakers have that is lacking in the modern ‘Creamback’ build currently being made by the British manufacturer.  Just our humble opinion there.

If you want classic, vintage British tone from your speakers, the search stops here.

Check out our new AlNiCO 10" speaker, the A1025!  These sound amazing in vintage Fender circuits, delivering incredibly sweet top end and gorgeous compression to the sound of an overdriven amplifier (Princeton Reverb, tweed Bassman etc).  Our version is specifically voiced to pair with vintage Fenders and yes, a proprietary design different from the stock WGS 10" AlNiCo!

Now about the speakers...

I had spent years searching for a speaker that sounded as good as the original Jensen Special Design that blew out in my 1959 tweed Vibrolux.  I tried them all, but nothing brought out the brilliant sound of that beautiful tweed circuit quite like that old Jensen.   Forrest White (the general manager of the Fender factory under Leo Fender) wrote in his book  Fender: The Inside Story that Leo claimed the magic ingredient of the tweed bassman was the Jensen “special design” speakers!  I still loved the Vibrolux, but it was lacking that special something it once had.  Big time.

Then we stumbled across some specific WGS made speakers. As soon as I installed that 10″ into my Vibrolux and hit that first chord, I knew my search was over.  My amp was alive again!  Incredibly full three dimensional sound; rich, detailed mids loaded with beautiful harmonic overtones, tight punchy bottom end, sweet round highs, these speakers had it all!  And the DETAIL!!  WOW!!!

Dean Birdsong at WGS worked with us to design the Fat Jimmy 'Vintage Series' speakers with the detail and clarity found in the Jensen Special Design speakers of the late 50’s and early 60's in mind, but they are NOT clones nor are they intended to be. They were designed to bring out the subtle nuances, articulate response and full, rich, 3D 'swirling' sound of those classic speakers, but with some modern tweaks to enhance performance.  And we nailed it.

These speakers come highly recommended by Vintage Fender Amp Repair. People write in all the time, asking what capacitor kit will fix their flubby low end. While new filter caps might help tighten up the sound a bit, the real fix fro flubby low end is is to upgrade your speaker!  Believe us, while plenty of bass is accessible, the Fender circuits are not inherently flubby in the low end – they are designed to handle the entire range of instruments (and they deliver)!  It’s usually the speakers that wear out and get soft & flubby as the years go by.

Fat Jimmy Vintage Series speakers are the perfect match for your vintage Fender amplifier.

Not only do these speakers sound incredible, they look great too! And let's face it, when you’re dealing with your vintage Fender, looks are important!

OUR SPEAKERS AND SUGGESTIONS:

NOTE: The names of these speakers tell you the size, magnet type and power rating!

Speaker Name = Magnet type / speaker diameter / power rating

C = Ceramic

A = AlNiCo

First Number = Inches (speaker diameter)

Second Number = Power Rating

For example the C1270 is a ceramic magnet, 12" speaker rated for 70W.
The A825 is an AlNiCO magnet, 8" speaker rated for 25w.  Etc...

C825: The best sounding 8″ speaker we’ve EVER heard! NO JOKE!! This 8″ speaker will breathe new life into a classic tweed champ, or bring your Blackface or Silverface Champ, Bronco or Vibrochamp into another whole realm of Tone Nirvana! This speaker is remarkably rich, detailed and 3D sounding, with a full, punchy low end that you won’t believe can come from an 8″ speaker. Full spectrum sonic bliss. You will be blown away by the sound this 8″ speaker can deliver. You won’t believe your champ could ever sound this good, and you very well might kick yourself for waiting this long to find out!
Rated for 25w, efficiency > 95dB.  1" voice coil

A825: This speaker is literally a perfect AlNiCO rendition of the above C825, getting all of the incredible sonic qualities the C825 delivers as well as offering the incredible chime and compression that AlNiCo speakers are famous for!
Rated at 25w, > 95dB.  1" voice coil

C1025: Our favorite 10″ speaker. Rated at 25 watts, this 10″ speaker has a certain magical quality to it. It delivers everything you could want in a 10″ speaker – punchy lows, richly textured mids, and smooth, round highs. As a single speaker it adds just the right amount of speaker breakup to your sound when pushed, without losing the tight ‘clean’ characteristics you need for optinal performance, even at higher volumes. This speaker has the smoothest, creamiest overdrive characteristics of any speaker in the FJVS lineup (which is saying quite a bit). Perfect for any vintage Fender with 1 x 10″ speaker and absolutely GLORIOUS in a Princeton Reverb! Highly recommended as a full replacement set in any 4 x 10″ combo such as a Super Reverb or Tweed Bassman, or any 2 x 10″ combo such as a Vibrolux Reverb, Brown Super, Tweed Super, etc. MAGIC in Tweed circuits (does wonders for a tweed Vibrolux).  This setup will also help your 4 x 10″ or 2 x 10″ combo shed some serious weight!
Rated for 25w, efficiency < 95dB. 1" voice coil. 3 lbs.

A1025: Due to popular demand, we have introduced a low powered 10" Alnico speaker to compliment our flagship C1025.  The new A1025 takes the same winning recipe used for the remarkable C1025 and used an AlNiCo magnet to give it that absolutely gorgeous top end that AlNiCos are famous for.  Add that touch of signature natural compression when pushed, and you get a tone that is hard to beat.  The A1025 sounds absolutely amazing in a blackface Princeton Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, Super Reverb, any brown amp that uses 10" speakers, and of course absolutely SHINES in tweed circuits like the 5F6-A Bassman!!  We decided to go with the kapton voice coil as opposed to paper for two reasons: a little more power handling capability, and more importantly, the warmer, smoother tone you get from Kapton.  Paper VC have their own sound, and while this can help get great tone in the right recipes, the kapton just 'worked' in this speaker.
efficiency @ 95dB.  1" voice coil

C1025GB: This is a surprisingly accurate reproduction of the famous 'Greenback' British speakers of the late 60's and early 70s.  Low powered, large magnet 10" speaker with paper voice coil.  This speaker is a key part of THE sound of early British rock!!  Both of these 10" GBs are getting incredible reviews on the forums!!!
The large magnet, coupled with a low power rating, delivers fat, tight, and focused low end even when the speaker itself is pushed into breakup.
efficiency 100 dB. 32oz magnet.  7 lbs

C1065GB: A higher powered version of the above 'Greenback'.  This goes head to head with the current 'Creamback' and wins hands down!!  Identical construction to the above 25w version with the exception of the kapton voice coil giving it higher power handling capabilities.  This speaker has a 3D sound that surpasses the current production model by the 'original' British manufacturer by leaps and bounds!
efficiency 100 dB. 32oz magnet.  7 lbs

A1065GB: Introducing our ALNICO GREENBACK speaker!!  This has quickly become one of my favorite speakers in the lineup.  You get the classic British voicing of the famous Greenback (more pronounced and aggressive mids than American voiced speakers) but with that undeniably gorgeous top end and bell like chime you can only get with an AlNiCo magnet!  The combination is absolutely glorious and blew away all of our expectations!

C1060: This is an excellent speaker if you are looking for more volume and headroom from your Princeton Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, or any 10″ speaker situation. This is a cleaner, more efficient speaker than the C1025. While not as creamy for low volume overdrive as the C1025, this speaker delivers more volume than you might expect from a 10″ speaker. If you just need ‘more’ from your Princeton Reverb, this is the speaker for you. We also love the combination of pairing the C1025 and the C1060 in the Vibrolux Reverb and Super Reverb. These two speakers work remarkably well together in these two particular circuits. You get the best of both worlds – the smooth texture and creaminess of the C1025 combined with the punch, headroom and clarity of the C1060!
efficiency  > 96dB.  7 lbs.  32oz magnet.

A1060: AlNiCo version of our C1060.  If you're an AlNiCo fan, you get it.  This 10"  sounds amazing in a Princeton Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, 5F6-A tweed Bassman, Super Reverb, or any 10" speaker setup.
Pairs incredibly well with both of our ceramic 10s by the way...
efficiency @ 97dB.  40 oz magnet.  7.5 lbs.

C1225: The Fat Jimmy Vintage Series C1225 in an excellent choice for LOW POWERED 12″ speaker applications. Full and rich, this speaker delivers the same creamy overdrive as the C1025, with the same SMALL MAGNET. Perfect for reducing the volume and headroom in a Tweed Deluxe intended for studio or practice use, or for a Princeton Reverb with a 12″ speaker. Also an excellent choice for any 12″ speaker application where the qualities of a lower powered speaker are desired: reduced volume, less headroom, creamier overdrive, and adding speaker distortion into the mix.  Rated for 25w. Personally I DO NOT recommend this speaker in 22w amps such as a Deluxe Reverb... you are 'cutting it too close' with the power rating/max handling and the low end will not hold up in amps like this if you push it.  If that's what you're looking for, excellent!!  But if you want tight, punchy low end in your DR, the C1270 would be our recommendation.  < 96dB.  20oz magnet.  1" voice coil.

A1225: NEW!  This 25w 12" AlNiCo was designed by popular request for a lower powered AlNiCo to pair with vintage circuits. The result is incredible!!  All of the clarity and bell-like chime in a lower speaker that breaks up when you push it. THE PERFECT speaker for taming your 5E3!!!

C1270: Our favorite 12″ speaker overall! The Fat Jimmy Vintage Series C1270 is incredibly versatile and the perfect upgrade for your Deluxe Reverb or any 1 x 12″ or 2 x 12″ combo, such as the Blackface or Silverface Twin Reverb, Pro Reverb, Brownface Twin, Tweed Twin, Bassman 2 x12 cab, Bandmaster 2 x 12 cab, etc etc! This remarkable speaker personifies the perfect balance of volume and headroom, while truly allowing the rich natural tube overdrive of your amplifier to be heard and properly represented! This speaker will launch your Deluxe Reverb head first into the full on professional gigging arena, while also providing the subtle detail and articulate response required for lower volume practice and studio recording situations. Two of these in a Pro or Twin Reverb will deliver the punch, clarity and headroom you need and expect from a 2 x 12″ Fender, while also delivering a warmth, richness, and 3D sound unmatched by any new production speaker available today. TIGHT, punchy low end; rich, detailed mids; and a very clear yet smooth and warm and round high end! Perfect in ANY 12″ speaker application!  Rated for 70w (but works remarkably well even in lower power applications).
efficiency @ 99dB.  32oz magnet.  1.5" voice coil.  7.5 lbs.

A1260: This speaker shares many of the sonic qualities of the C1270, but delivers that vintage AlNiCo sound! If you’re an AlNiCo fan, this speaker is for you. AlNiCo speakers have a different ‘texture’ than ceramic speakers. They have a certain sonic quality when pushed – a certain compression and detail that is differnt from a ceramic speaker (you AlNiCo conniseurs know what I’m talking about). These speakers pair incredibly well with vintage Tweed circuits – pure magic in a vintage tweed Deluxe or tweed Twin! While these speaker sound amazing in any Deluxe Reverb or 5E3 Tweed Deluxe, they truly do something truly magical in the older Tweed Deluxe circuits like the 5B3, 5C3, and 5D3… These speakers also blend *perfectly* with a ceramic C1270 in 2 x 12″ combos – another case where ‘one of each’ gives you the best of both worlds!!
efficiency @97dB. 40oz alnico magnet. 1.5" voice coil. 9.5 lbs.

A1265GB: Introducing our ALNICO GREENBACK speaker!!

(These ARE different than the 'UK' speakers, with very different cones being the most pronounced difference.  The 'UK' series is more of a 'modern' British speaker while the GBs are modeled after the CLASSIC Greenbacks and truly capture that sound.)

A1270UK: Our 'British AlNiCo'!  We understand that the 'British Sound' with more midrange emphasis is often desired by owners of vintage Fender amplifiers, while still maintaining the classic chime Fenders are famous for.  Pair this with a solid, punchy low end that doesn't 'flub out' and you have an amazing speaker recipe.

This is our answer to the very excellent AlNiCo "Gold" speaker made by a top British speaker manufacturer.  We took the time to directly compare our A1270UK to several real Gold AlNiCo 12's, and after a few tweaks we nailed the sound!  Same components used throughout (same voice coil, cone, big fabric dust cap, doping level etc) but with a classy silver powder coating as a nod to the classic vintage speakers from this famous British manufacturer.  And to top it off, we are charging about $100 less per speaker than the Brits!
efficiency @ 99dB.  1.75" voice coil. 9.5 lbs

C1270UK: This is our ceramic version of the classic, modern production British 12" speaker.  You can take what we describe above and apply it to this ceramic version of these classic 12s.
efficiency @ 99dB.  1.75" voice coil. 7.5 lbs.

C1225GB: This is a surprisingly accurate reproduction of the famous 'Greenback' British speakers of the late 60's and early 70s.  Low powered, large magnet 12" speaker with paper voice coil.  This speaker is a key part of THE sound of early British rock!!
efficiency @ 100dB.  1.75" voice coil. 7.5 lbs.

C1265GB: A higher powered version of the above 'Greenback'.  This goes head to head with the current 'Creamback' and wins hands down!!  Identical construction to the above 25w version with the exception of the kapton voice coil giving it higher power handling capabilities.  This speaker has a 3D sound that surpasses the current production model by the 'original' British manufacturer by leaps and bounds!
efficiency @ 100dB.  1.75" voice coil. 7.5 lbs.

C1570: This is our 15" masterpiece, basically a 15" version of the above C1270 flagship speaker.  The tone is remarkably similar, but with that larger, 'wider' sound you can only get from a 15" speaker!!  PLEASE NOTE that this speaker is rated for 70w, so it is not recommended for high powered 15" applications like a Vibrasonic or Twin Reverb.
efficiency @ 99dB.  32oz magnet.  1.5" voice coil.

C15250BASS: This is our KILLER 15" Bass Speaker.  I had been using JBL D140s for years, and loved the clarity they delivered, something lacking in most bass speakers today (and compensated for with tweeters in cabs... uggh!!).  I asked Dean over at WGS if he could build me a high powered bass speaker that would give me everything I wanted in a single 15" speaker/cab... the FAT, thick, PUNCHY low end that holds together beautifully, rich mids, and most importantly for me, the CLARITY for the high notes and attack that most speakers lack.  He DELIVERED, BIG TIME!!  This speaker has now replaced all of my beloved JBL D140s... and to be clear it's NOT a copy!!! You get MORE fat and punchy low end than the JBL, but all the clarity without any harsh high end!!  With a cast aluminum frame the weight is in check to boot!!  Highly recommended for bass!!
